From the holiday events at our children’s school to the ornament exchanges and Christmas cookie decorating, there is so much fun to be had this season – whether you decide to stay indoors or venture outside!
Happy Holidays in Chattanooga and Surrounding Areas
The following are some holiday attractions happening in Chattanooga for the 2017 holiday season. With so many events in the Chattanooga area, I hope I was able to capture them all!
Chattanooga’s New Holiday Trail of Lights
Dates: Begins November 17
Time: Various times at the different locations
Have you heard the news? Something new is coming to Chattanooga this holiday season. Chattanooga’s Holiday Trail of Lights will ensure families are able to capture the holiday spirit of our area. Stay tuned for the “official” Holiday Trail of Lights Guide, which you will be able view and print online.
Chattanooga Ballet’s “The Nutcracker”
Dates: December 9 and 10
Time: December 9 has two showings: 2pm and 7:30pm; December 10 showing is at 2pm.
Can you imagine a holiday season that doesn’t include seeing the “Nutcracker”? This classic holiday ballet is one you won’t want to miss, and the show can make for a wonderful date night or even an evening with family.
Chattanooga Theater Center’s “Beauty and the Beast”
Dates: December 8-30
Time: Showtimes vary
A tale as old as time is coming to life this December! Between the amazing costumes and spectacular sets, you will feel as though you are in the tale itself.
Chattanooga Zoo’s Holiday Lights
Dates: December 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17
This celebration is for the ultimate animal lover, because what could be better than a combination of holiday lights and zoo animals? Plus, you have the ability to take pictures with Santa, as well as see the animals unwrap their own holiday gifts this year!
Collegedale Christmas Market 2017
Dates: November 25 and 26
Instead of going to brand stores this year searching for gifts, why not grab a friend and go shopping at the Christmas Market, where you are sure to find a ton of gifts made by local artists? Make this the season you go local for your gifts.
Holiday Cheer at the Pier
Dates: November 24
Transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas with this free to the public event, which is filled with pictures with Santa, a lighted boat parade, and fireworks! A great way to help kick off the holiday season in Chattanooga.
Home for the Holidays
Dates: December 16 and 17
Time: December 16 at 7:30pm and December 17 at 3pm
Take a break from your holiday shopping and baking, and enjoy the sounds of the holidays at the Chattanooga Symphony.
Ice on the Landing
Dates: November 17-December 19 and January 8-21
Time: Monday-Wednesday (2-9pm); Thursday-Friday (2-11pm); Saturday (10am-11pm); Sunday (noon-9pm)
Located in the historic Glenn Miller Outdoor Gardens at the Chattanooga Choo Choo, Ice on the Landing allows family and friends to get together and ice skate as through you were in our very own Central Park! Be sure to check out the website for any special “theme” nights, as well as possible Santa sightings.
MainStreet Cleveland’s Annual Christmas Parade
Dates: December 2
From businesses to local schools, there is sure to be someone you know in Cleveland’s Christmas Parade this year! Be sure to grab a seat early, and bring a bag with you, as you just might catch some holiday candy during the parade.
North Pole Limited
Dates: November 24-December 30
Time: Varies — excursions are 75-minutes
Who is ready to take a magical journey to the North Pole? Quickly becoming a family tradition for many, the North Pole Limited train rides allow families the opportunity to take a train ride with storytelling and sing-a-longs. Plus, a special treat of gingerbread cookies and a chocolate boxed drink is also served, while a certain guest just might stop by give a holiday keepsake to passengers.
Painting with a Twist
The decorations you make yourself are the ones that mean the most! So why not use this opportunity to not only spend with family and friends, but also add a new painting to your holiday decorations?
PJs and Polar Express
Dates: December 16 and 17
Who is ready to hop aboard the Polar Express? And best part, you can come in your pjs! In fact, it is highly recommended that you dress leisurely to enjoy a 3D showing of the “Polar Express” at the IMAX. However, the showing isn’t the only fun part. Come early and you can meet the Conductor while enjoying hot cocoa and fresh pastries!
Rock City Gardens’ Enchanted Garden of Lights
Dates: November 17-January 6th
Time: Nightly from 6-9pm
If lights are what you are looking for, the lights are what you are going to get! The 23rd annual light extravaganza at Rocky City will not disappoint, as not only can your family partake in the hundreds of thousands of holiday lights, but pictures with Santa and decorating gingerbread cookies while sipping hot cocoa are also available at this event, which is sure to make it a magical night for all!
Ruby Falls’ Christmas Underground
Dates: December 1-23 (days vary)
Explore a different side of Christmas by taking a tour of a secret, underground ice cave that could lead directly to Santa’s home at the North Pole! Sometimes a little mystery and fun around finding Santa can bring the entire family together and make for some great memories.
Santa at the Choo Choo
Dates: November 20-December 22 (select dates)
Time: Vary depending on date
Do you really want to fight the craziness going on at Hamilton Place Mall for a picture with Santa? Skip the lines and take the kids to see Santa at the Choo Choo! Not only will you be able to see Santa, but you will also have a chance to see Chattanooga’s tallest indoor Christmas tree, and that’s a sight you won’t want to miss.
Southern Belle Riverboat’s ‘Tis the Season Luncheon and Christmas Carol Dinner Cruises
Dates: December 1-17

Are you looking for a different way to take the kids to see Santa this year? Then, why not book a lunch or dinner cruise session on the Southern Belle Riverboat? You can satisfy both your palate and your child’s desire to see Santa!
Tennessee Aquarium’s Holidays Under the Peaks
Dates: November 17-December 31
Have you ever met SCUBA Santa? He is making his appearance this holiday season at the Tennessee Aquarium! Be sure to check out the website for dates and times of various holiday events happening during “Holidays Under the Peaks,” as every week brings something different like Freshwater Pipefish Feeding, Sandy Claws Crab/Lobster Program, and Merry Mammals.
