Spring Break in Chattanooga {2018}

2

March is halfway over, and suddenly, you realize what’s coming. You’ve hoped for a break from the school lunches and early mornings, but now the reality is more than you can bear. It’s coming…

With more than a week to spare, it’s not too late to start planning how to enjoy a week with your kiddos. Thank goodness we live in a place that is rich in culture, fun, and beautiful natural surroundings! Without breaking the bank or driving too far, you can spend the week enjoying all that Chattanooga has to offer!

Go on a safari!

The Chattanooga Visitor’s Bureau has put together a Spring Break Safari! Between March 9 and April 8, kids can visit a wide variety of attractions at a discounted price in Chattanooga including:

Not only is there a guide for each location, they also put together a scavenger hunt for Chattanooga as well! In case you don’t want to pay to visit all of the locations, there is a scavenger hunt that does not require admission (it’s free!).

Get away!

If you can get out for a night or two, spring for a hotel downtown! The Chattanooga Choo Choo is always a fun choice with lots of dining options nearby. The newly opened Westin Chattanooga is part of the revitalization of the new West Village, and it boasts food, drink, and shopping. You could also try out The Chattanoogan, with its amazing spa and delicious in-house restaurants. For a taste of the modern and quirky, The Dwell Hotel is an option as well.

Go outside!

The Chattanooga Zoo is one of our favorites — it’s relatively inexpensive, and it is super kid friendly! Chattanooga has no shortage of playgrounds, so take advantage of any pretty days and get outside! If playgrounds are too crowded or you need a change of pace from those, try something new! Disc golf is easy and inexpensive for beginners, and there’s nothing more enjoyable than a hike with a view! You can go for a bike ride on the Riverwalk or enjoy a picnic in one of Chattanooga’s beautiful city parks (you can always give cardboard sledding a try at Renaissance Park)!

Beat the heat or rain!

Let’s face it: Chattanooga weather can be fickle and there’s no telling what kind of weather we’ll be looking at by Spring Break. If you’re too hot or too waterlogged, there are always indoor options to choose from as well!

The Tennessee Aquarium is a fun treat, and the IMAX has some great new movies, including the brand new movie The Wild Around You. You can try out the new Zanzibar exhibit at the Creative Discovery Museum or take a look around at the

If you need some excitement or adventure, try out Superfly, High Point Climbing, or even one of the breakout room locations in Chattanooga: Breakout Chattanooga, Escape Experience Chattanooga, Quest2Escape, and Escape Mission Chattanooga.

Plan your time — local events through spring break

Make sure to look at our Easter events coming up this month for Easter egg hunts, bunnies, and good food!

A Year with Frog & Toad (Chattanooga Theatre Centre): Waking from hibernation in the spring, the perky Frog and the worrywart Toad plan gardens, swim, rake leaves, go sledding and learn life lessons through four fun-filled seasons. This exuberant story celebrates the differences of this amphibian odd couple in a musical that soars like a kite and blossoms like spring. Showing March 23-31.

Rock City Fairytale Nights: Adventure awaits you at Rock City’s newest spring event, Fairytale Nights – where Dreams come to life! Join us on a spectacular journey as we travel to a faraway. March 23-April 15 from 6-8pm.

Mocs Softball vs. Austin Peay: Come out and support your Softball Mocs as they take on Austin Peay. Tickets as low as $5 for adults and kids.

Breathe with me. You can survive a week entertaining your kids. Consider it a practice round for summer vacation! I kid, I kid. I hope you are able to enjoy a taste of what Chattanooga has to offer and get a taste of what it’s like to be a tourist in your own backyard.
